Main areas of interest
Mads Thau works on municipal management and benchmarking and he also maps municipal needs and practices in the major welfare service areas (e.g., elderly care, primary education, special needs care). Furthermore, Mads works on democratic issues including voting behavior, political elites, and institutional design. Mads has published numorues reports, while his research has appeared in journals like The Journal of Politics, European Union Politics, Political Studies and Public Administration.
Mads is an expert in quantitative methods but often combines different methods in his work. He has collected data using surveys, public registries, personal or focus group interviews and content analysis. Mads has experience using both cross-sectional, time series, panel and experimental designs.
Mads holds a MSc and PhD in Political Science from Aarhus University. During his time at the university, he taught at undergraduate and graduate level (e.g., in social science methods). He has been affiliated with Humboldt University Berlin, the University of Oslo and Oxford University. Mads joined VIVE as a tenure-track researcher in 2018.
