The Integrated Children's System (ICS) is a social research methodology used in connection with technical surveys and action plans for children. The ICS methodology is based on theoretical and research-based knowledge about the development and well-being of children and comprises the 'focus areas divided into age groups' tool that lists a number of focal points that may be relevant to analyse. This report aims at updating and qualifying the focal points in the focus areas divided into age groups on the basis of data collection and review of recent research-based knowledge. The most recent research shows that factors such as housing, financial situation and the local environment play a huge role in the well-being of children. There is also more focus on including children’s wishes and perspectives in social work with vulnerable families, and both of these aspects have been incorporated into the focus areas.
