Disability has serious consequences. For the individual person, disability can restrict the quality of life. For society, disability involves reduced supply of labour and increased public expenditure. Therefore, there is a great potential benefit for society by increasing employment for people with disabilities.
This report provides an overview of areas with systematic research-based knowledge about disabilities and employment and areas where such knowledge is lacking. Moreover, the report reviews the results of part of the international and Scandinavian research on the effect of employment efforts for people with disabilities.
The researchers found as many as 58 systematic research reviews of disabilities and employment. However, the more detailed analysis of much of the literature shows that only few studies can in fact provide information on the effect of these efforts.
The report forms a basis for systematic work on knowledge-basing employment efforts for people with disabilities.
The study was commissioned and financed by the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment.
