This is the second report in a series of six reports from the Dialogue project. The report describes Danish municipalities’ preventive work aimed at children aged 0-4 and places this work in the context of relevant research in the field.
In the period 2009 to 2013, the Danish National Centre for Social Research and Cowi A/S will work together on the project ‘Dialogue group - Preventive measures as an alternative to child placement’. The objective of the project is to acquire and systematise knowledge about municipal practices, experiences and results with regard to preventive work aimed at vulnerable children and young people. The data of the report are based on preliminary measurements, however the preliminary results indicate that existing research supports efforts in practice. It is important to ensure good parent-child relations. Furthermore, professionals from the child’s environment, e.g. childminders and nursery school teachers, can help ensure earlier contact with the vulnerable child. The study covers 10 selected Danish municipalities participating in the 4-year project. The study has been commissioned and financed by the National Board of Social Services.
