Reaction of an injured party to a pending industrial injury case

The report shows that uncertainty regarding recovery, ability to work and health is the primary cause of psychological strain on the injured party. Uncertainty about the size of possible damages plays a less important role. Less than 10% of injured parties try to obtain as high compensation as possible rather returning earlier to their workplace. Many injured parties, particularly those who are exposed to long waiting times for a decision, experience financial difficulties and need to dig into assets and savings. A small percentage of injured parties take out loans or sell valuables. Insurance companies play an important role in reducing waiting times for treatment of injured parties. Four out of ten accident victims have their treatment paid by an insurance or pension company. The report also examines assessments by injured parties of the system to help them return to the labour market. This includes efforts by their employer, municipality, insurance company and the health system. The study was commissioned and financed by the Ministry of Employment.
