The aim of this report is to provide an overview of the social initiatives for children and young people in Greenland in 2011.
The survey is being financed by Villum Fonden and it is based on data collected via information in budgets for 2011 for the Greenland Self-Government and the four municipalities of Greenland. In addition, information has been collected from a number of independent and private institutions, NGOs as well as private organisations and associations. In total, information has been collected on 141 different initiatives.
Most of the initiatives take place all-year-round or at fixed dates each year, and a vast majority of resources are used on establishing and operating daycare centres and orphanages. Initiatives financed by the Greenland Self-Government and the municipalities are typically planned and part of the social services, whereas new and less traditional initiatives are often launched by independent and private institutions, and by NGOs.
