In recent years, more and more people have been diagnosed with ADHD, which is a behavioural disorder. People with ADHD have very different needs for support, and accordingly, the aim of the report is to create an overview of existing social interventions and offers for young people and adults with ADHD.
Most of the programmes in the survey meet their objective and have relevant knowledge to manage the area. However, in most cases the programmes also encompass other users with other psychiatric problems. The lack of specialisation is linked to the fact that the municipality is more responsible for social rather than therapeutic programmes related to the ADHD group.
Many adults with ADHD have stated that it is very resource-demanding to obtain the necessary support from their municipality, whereas parents of children with ADHD find it easier to obtain the proper support. However, both groups face many challenges such as lack of coordination and frequent changes of case officer. The report has been prepared in connection with the National Board of Social Services project “New and enhanced efforts for children, young people and adults with ADHD” and financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
