Storbypuljen (The City Funding Pool) has allocated more than DKK 300 million in the period 2003-2005 to reinforce initiatives for socially vulnerable groups in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg and Esbjerg. A total of 69 projects have received funding, including alternative nursing homes, supported accommodation and a variety of other services, e.g. private and voluntary drop-in centres and counselling projects.
The Danish National Institute of Social Research has evaluated the initiative through interviews with, among others, administration managers, project managers and users of a number of the projects that received funding.
Most of the experiences are positive. But more initiatives are needed, and some could be even better. The catalogue here provides recommendations and good advice to inspire both current and future projects for socially vulnerable groups. The target group is local authority policy-makers and social workers, as well as players in private and volunteer social organisations.
