What characterises a good teacher, with pupils who do well in their final leaving exams? This anthology report investigates the correlation between, on the one hand, the background, resources and teaching of teachers and, on the other hand, the academic performance of their pupils.
The report describes the significance of a range of aspects, such as teaching methodologies, class-room environment, teacher collaboration, the gender and competences of the teacher, as well as class size and classroom hours.
One of the overall conclusions in the report is that a well defined academic framework and clear classroom management, on average, have a positive effect on the performance of pupils in general, and in particular on the performance of pupils with weak social backgrounds.
The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Children and Education, occasioned by the Presidency of Skolerådet (the school council; council for evaluation and quality development in the Folkeskole).
