IT has provided access for the blind to a great deal of the information from which they were previously excluded, and over the past years disabled people’s job and educational opportunities have generally been improved. However, does this mean that blind adults are coping better today than previously?
Not according to this study, which on the contrary shows that in recent generations the level of education for blind people has fallen and that they only take limited part in an active working life.
This is probably because barriers have increased. The world is constantly changing and too little is being done to avoid excluding this group of people who typically take a little longer to get started.
The study is part of a project which also includes a study of blind children. The Danish Association of the Blind and the Ministry of the Interior and Social Affairs initiated the study, which has been financed with funds from the public pool of funds earmarked for disadvantaged groups.
