This report describes a number of aspects of the public substance abuse treatment programmes in Denmark. Based on register data from Stofmisbrugsdatabasen (the substance abuse database), the report describes the progress of people with registered substance abuse from 2008 to 2013. Among other things, the report highlights the number of people with registered substance abuse, their characteristics, how many receive a public substance abuse treatment programme as well their progress once treatment has ended.
Furthermore, the report describes municipal management and resource consumption in connection with substance abuse treatment programmes. The report also contains the municipalities' assessment of the barriers and opportunities for improving public substance abuse treatment programmes.
The analyses in the report show an increase in the number people with a registered substance abuse, and the municipalities assess that many people with a substance abuse do not seek treatment.
The report was commissioned by the National Board of Social Services.
