SFI has been monitoring 6,000 children since they were born in 1995. This report, which is an anthology with a number of independent chapters, reports on the fifth data collection from spring 2011. At that time the children were 15 years-old and most of them had decided what they would be doing after the 9th grade at school.
Each of the chapters contributes new knowledge about growing up in Denmark. Overall the analyses show that things are going well for the majority of the 15-year-olds, but there is also a greater differentiation. For example there is a significant social distortion in the young people's plans and expectations for their further education. The young people are ambitious, but their parents' backgrounds and attitudes play a large role.
The study also focuses on vulnerable young people with repressive symptoms, where poor well-being is most widespread amongst girls. There is also new knowledge about young people with ADHD and their social backgrounds, young people's attitudes to alcohol and hash, family life with teenagers, and the significance of the modern role of the father.
The study is being financed with funds from the public public pool of funds.
