How happy are children and young people in care in Denmark? What do they think about daily life, including school and education and, more specifically, what do they think about their relationships with friends and family?
These are the topics of this survey, which is based on questionnaire replies from 1,560 children and young people in care aged 11, 13, 15 and 17 during spring 2016. At the time, around 11,000 Danish children and young people were placed in care outside the home, which corresponds to 1% of all 0 to 17-year-olds.
This survey is unique as the replies stem from the children and young people themselves. It is therefore the experiences of the children and young people in care that are brought to light, independent of case officers, care placement, parents and other involved parties.
The survey covers themes such as children's experience of their care placement, their subjective well-being, health and leisure time, contact with family, network, friends and schooling. Additionally, the survey focuses on how children and young people experience inclusion and, as a specific theme, it also focuses on the network and close relationships of the children and young people.
The survey was commissioned and financed by the Danish Ministry of Children and Social Affairs.
