This study is the last of four sub-studies of the NAKUUSA project. NAKUUSA consists of a number of activities/projects aimed at enhancing the conditions and rights of children in Greenland.
The study focuses on the youths included in the NAKUUSA children’s panel. The study aims to elucidate the following questions:
- What have the youths in the panel learnt about the rights of children?
- What activities in NAKUUSA have the youths participated in?
- What do the youths know about other youths who are socially vulnerable?
- What have the youths done themselves to take on responsibility, and who do they in general believe is responsible for helping socially vulnerable children and young people?
The report shows that the youths in the panel know a great deal about how a child’s life is affected when the child’s parents are socially vulnerable. The report also shows that the youths see children’s rights as an opportunity for children and young people in Greenland to get a fresh start.
The youths interviewed in the study have a strong desire to contribute to making change, however, they know very little about what can be done. Most of the youths believe that parents are primarily responsible for helping their children. None of the youths mention state programmes as an option for help.
The NAKUUSA project has existed since 2011 and is being run by the Ministry of Family, Gende
