The purpose of this report is to illustrate the extent of gambling and risky gambling behaviour, and to identify the gambling patterns of young Danes. This is the first representative survey of young Danes assessing their attitudes to risks involved in gambling on the basis of the NODS screening instrument. On behalf of the Danish Gaming Authority under the Danish Ministry of Taxation, the Danish National Centre for Social Research (SFI) has previously studied gambling patterns and the extent of gambling problems for adults between the ages of 18 and 74. In this study SFI-Survey conducted 3,814 telephone interviews with young people between the ages of 12 and 17 in July/August 2007. The young people interviewed were selected randomly from Statistics Denmark on the basis of their civil registration number (CPR number). Results of the study can therefore be used to illustrate the general extent and problems related to gambling throughout Denmark. The study was funded by the Danish Gaming Authority under the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Health Insurance Foundation.
