Program:

Three distinguished speakers with deep insights into HIV/AIDS prevention across the Global North and the Global South will share their knowledge about the challenges of implementing and securing access to preventive, medical treatment and the development of local strategies to overcome these challenges.

  • Dr Fernandos Ongolly (Kenyan Medical Anthropologists, University College Dublin) will discuss structural, socio-cultural, and systemic barriers to the implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), including stigma, health care provider biases, policy gaps, and logistical hurdles, based on fieldwork in Kenya and Ireland. 
  • Dr Dulce Ferraz (Université Lumière Lyon) will discuss the psychosocial and organisational challenges of accessing and using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), drawing on research conducted in Brazil and France. 
  • Charles Brown (Preventive Care International, Uganda) will discuss local HIV prevention innovation efforts, focusing on innovative grassroots strategies and how these are leveraged.
