This report provides a summary of knowledge about dyscalculia in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. People with dyscalculia lack the fundamental ability to understand numbers and amounts and it can be a serious handicap. The report describes the extensive professional debate about dyscalculia in these countries. On this basis, the researchers conclude that it is a good idea to talk about dyscalculia as a diagnosis similar to dyslexia. The researchers also suggest an overall definition of dyscalculia. The report also describes tests, interventions and support for people with dyscalculia. The review has been commissioned and financed by the Danish Ministry of Education. The report is part of a larger process to target mathematics teaching.
