This report describes the composition of the voluntary members of the Danish Home Guard; their opinions and expectations with regard to the Home Guard. A similar survey was completed in 2007, and the report therefore also sheds light on developments from 2007 to 2011.
Amongst other things, the report shows that the voluntary members are a stable resource, since they have been members of the Home Guard on average more than 24 years. By far the majority of voluntary members are men aged between 25 and 50; relatively many have an academic background; and relatively many are employed in the private sector. The members are also relatively more active in other voluntary work than the population in general.
Furthermore, the report shows that one-third of all active members of the Home Guard would say yes to deployment to international missions to support Danish Defence in their tasks. Young members, in particular, have a positive attitude, and this group of members has grown in recent years.
The report is based on a representative questionnaire survey and has been commissioned and financed by the Home Guard Command.
