The report Fra Migrant til SOSU-aspirant (in English, From migrant to social and healthcare aspirant) presents findings that contribute to the re-evaluation of current recruitment and retention strategies pertaining to migrant social and healthcare trainees and workers in Danish elderly care. The report is the culmination of a three-year research and innovation project with two primary aims:
1. Proposing strategies to enable social and healthcare colleges and municipalities to create more attractive and inclusive study and work environments, thereby enhancing the recruitment and retention of migrant social and healthcare trainees and workers.
2. Equipping migrant social and healthcare trainees with tools to improve their learning,
communication, and collaboration in educational settings. The project combined exploratory anthropological research, fieldwork, co-creation, and IT
development processes in collaboration with trainees, tutors, practice supervisors, and managers in three municipalities and two social and healthcare colleges. The report provides insights and experiences regarding barriers and interventions related to access to and completion of a social and healthcare education among migrant trainees. The project focuses on trainees on two specific educational programmes: social and healthcare helper (social- og sundhedshjælper) and social and healthcare assistant (social- og sundhedsassistent). More specifically, it examines the transition from college-based learning to workplace training, communication, relational work with citizens, the elderly care as both a learning environment and a workplace, and digital learning support needs among migrant trainees.
The report presents recommendations for improving learning and training, and it introduces a prototype of a digital learning support tool, SOSU Appen (The SOSU App)
