The Danish gambling market has changed radically in recent years. Rules on gambling, e.g. betting, online casinos and card games, were liberalised in 2012. The number of gambling operators on the market has increased, and the internet has made it easier to access many possibilities to bet and play for money.
This report describes the development in Danes' gambling habits from 2015 to 2016; both with regard to the spread of gambling in general and with regard to people with gambling problems.
Overall, the study shows that although the possibilities for gambling have increased, there has been a drop in the percentage of Danes who play for money. However, there has been a slight increase in the number of people who have some sort of gambling problem.
The report also comprises a study of what has happened to people who showed risky gambling behaviour in 2005. The study shows that by far the majority are still playing for money, but only few still have gambling problems.
This study was financed by the Danish Ministry of Taxation.
