The objective of this survey is to shed light on the living conditions of Greenlanders in Denmark in a number of areas, with special focus on more vulnerable people. Firstly, the survey describes the conditions for Greenlanders in Denmark, and secondly there is an assessment of how these conditions have changed over a five-year period for a selected group of Greenlanders.
Overall, the survey shows that the percentage of socially vulnerable Greenlanders is much higher than the percentage of socially vulnerable people in the rest of the Danish population. This applies for all of the areas examined, including income, public benefits, homelessness, drug-abuse treatment and crime.
With some exceptions, it is also dispiriting to follow the trends in living conditions for a group of 221 Greenlanders from 2007 to 2011. It does not seem that these people improve their living conditions during their time in Denmark, in terms of employment, public benefits or health.
The survey is part of the Strategy for Socially Vulnerable Greenlanders in Denmark 2013-2016, and the report was commissioned and financed by the National Board of Social Services.
