This report presents the results of a survey of material and social deprivation among the financially poor in Denmark and those who are not poor. The survey reveals the scope and the nature of deprivation among both adults and children.
The survey is based on the definition of financial poverty drawn up by the panel of experts on poverty in 2013, and it measures deprivation in nine dimensions: food, clothing, housing, furniture, communication, transportation, social activities, recreational activities as well as health and personal hygiene.
The report not only provides a detailed insight into the relationship between financial poverty and deprivation, it also describes the interplay between employment, family relations, debt, mental disorders and social marginalisation.
The study was commissioned and financed by the public pool of funds and the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Interior.
