There are no overall statistics on social security fraud and incorrect payments of social benefits in Denmark. This literature study examines how other countries investigate and calculate the scope of social security fraud and funds wrongly paid. The aim is to create a qualified basis for determining how best to calculate the scope of fraud and incorrect payments in Denmark. The report focuses on the scope of, as well as the reasons for, and initiatives against social security fraud.
The literature study shows that England and Sweden, in particular, have focused on this area. Their calculations show that excessive payments due to error and fraud account for about 2-4 percent of total payments of public benefits.
The study also shows that incorrect information about residence, income and assessed ability to work in particular leads to wrongful payments.
The literature study has been commissioned and financed by the Danish Pensions Agency.
