This compilation is the first summary of current knowledge and experience about subsequent care in the Scandinavian countries, the United Kingdom and the US.
The report contains:
- An overview of the number of young people in placements and therefore potential candidates for subsequent care when they turn 18, and of the proportion of young people who are actually receiving subsequent care.
- A description of the trends in national and international research concerning challenges and issues related to subsequent care interventions.
- Experience with subsequent care in selected Danish municipalities.
- A summary analysis of existing knowledge and experience in the area of subsequent care.
The objective of this report is to highlight trends and challenges in subsequent care work, so that practitioners and professionals at all levels have a basis for debate about how to best organise subsequent care work in Denmark.
This compilation of knowledge and experience is the first SFI report published in connection with the so-called subsequent care package, which includes a number of initiatives to improve the transition to adulthood for previously placed young people. The initiatives are being financed under the public pool of funds 2011-2014 and were commissioned by the National Board of Social Services.
