The number of tenants that are evicted from their home has gone up from 1,499 in 2002 to 2,589 in 2006. A tenant may be evicted for not paying rent on time or for disrespecting the house rules. This report describes the reasons for evictions and the underlying reasons for the increase in the number of evictions. The report also describes the consequences of an eviction and lists recommendations for areas of initiative. The chief reasons for tenant evictions are low income, low disposable income, large debts, a relatively large proportion of income spent on rent, and poor financial management. These circumstances are exacerbated if the tenant becomes unemployed, experiences changes in family or housing circumstances, has abuse problems or is suffering from psychological disorders. Evictions contribute to retaining socially vulnerable groups in bad circumstances and they reduce the chances of these group to achieve a normal life with stable work and housing.
