Labour Market
This report focuses on women in the male-dominated construction world.
The survey shows that women generally thrive in their profession but that they meet some gender-related challenges. They often need to make an extra effort to prove that they can handle the often physically demanding work. And they must be able to handle the harsh tone and attitude which can sometimes be rough and offensive. Pregnancy, maternity leave and children may also create challenges. Women have particular difficulties in balancing the very early work hours with delivering children at daycare centres.
Even though women are a minority at their workplaces, they often have a positive influence on the working environment as they can help make it more legitimate to consider physical health and use aids for heavy lifting.
The survey is based on interviews with 30 women who are either undergoing training or have concluded selected industry apprenticeships, e.g. joiner, carpenter, masons.
The survey has been commissioned and financed by the United Federation of Danish Workers (3F).
