The Retention Centre was established by the National Board of Industrial Injuries in 2008. The purpose of the Centre is to increase the quality of case processing and improve collaboration between the Board of Industrial Injuries and the municipalities with a view to helping people who have suffered an occupational injury and are at risk of losing contact to the labour market. This report describes how four central players; municipalities, insurance companies, trade unions and employers, assess the Centre’s work. The report builds on interviews with a total of 20 individuals, representing the four players, who have all worked together with the Retention Centre on specific cases concerning occupational injuries.
The interviewees were overall positive in their assessment of the Centre The Retention Centre contributes to building a bridge between the different stakeholders and the claimant, and can for example make preliminary rulings on compensation to ensure claimants do not find themselves in a financial void. However, the four stakeholders also indicate that the Centre does not offer solutions to all the potential conflicts of interests and regulatory conflicts, and that this can be seen as an obstacle to retaining the injured person in the labour market.
The study has been commissioned and funded by the National Board of Industrial Injuries.
