Here you can get an overview of factors and institutions that affect families and the daily lives, upbringing and development of children and adolescents. VIVE has a special focus on children and adolescents in disadvantaged and vulnerable positions, such as children and adolescents placed in care, the inclusion of pupils with special needs and the general well-being of children and adolescents.

VIVE continuously produces new knowledge about a number of factors that are significant for life in families and for the upbringing, daily lives and development of children and adolescents. This is done on a solid data basis, for example through longitudinal studies, where various groups of children, students and adolescents are followed over a period of time.

VIVE has a special focus on children and adolescents in vulnerable positions. This applies, for instance, to the one per cent of all children and adolescents who are placed outside the home. We also study and monitor the well-being of children and adolescents in general.

Day care centres, schools and youth education programmes are crucial institutions for the upbringing and development of children and adolescents in Denmark. Health care, educational psychological counselling (PPR) and the municipal organisation of support and initiatives are of great importance to children and families in Denmark. VIVE also has knowledge on quality, management and initiatives in these welfare areas, among other topics.

Ditte Andersen

Professor MSO, PhD

Ditte Andersen is Professor with special responsibilities at VIVE – The Danish Center for Social Science Research. Her research centers on welfare, with a particular focus on people in vulnerable positions and the translation of social policy trends—such as co-creation and social investment—into practice at the frontlines of the welfare state. Her work explores the intersection of citizens and welfare systems, examining how institutional logics shape everyday interactions and how individuals create meaning, identity, and direction through narratives.
