This study attempts to estimate the employment effect of the 1977 increase in the Danish minimum wage from statistics which cover about twenty-five per cent of the blue collar workers. The calculations are based on knowledge of the wage distributions one year before and one year after a significant rise in the minimum wage, and it shows that more than 40 per cent of the workers with wages lower than the minimum wage have lost their jobs, and for that reason incurs a drop in their income. It is pointed out that an alternative policy of a state transfer or an education program for the low-wage group could be a better way of rising their income.
